In January of 2012, an annual closet-cleaning resulted in an idea.

Murmur founder Alyssa was cleaning out her closet, and a mountain of bags full of donation-bound garments began to form in her bedroom corner. Having donated clothing almost every year to various charities, this ritual really was nothing new.

But parting ways with once beloved tops, dresses and clutches was becoming more and more painful each year. She realized there must be fashionistas out there who would appreciate her gently worn items.

Alyssa decided to start a curated online collection of pre-owned clothing and accessories that budget-minded fashionistas could shop at for the best brands and designer labels: Murmur.

Murmur isn't purely vintage (although we love vintage!) and it's not an auction site. It is a curated collection for classy girls that know how to mix Hermès with H&M, and new pieces with consignment store finds.

Murmur works with women in the New York City area who have pieces they no longer wear - we sort through everything and list the best of the best on our site for our savvy shoppers to snag.

At Murmur, girls that get a shopping itch can grab true steals - pre-worn clothing in excellent condition - without feeling guilty. And as the name implies, no one ever has to know ...
